Please note: Concert dates for the 2020-21 season are tentative due to COVID 19.

The Wabash Valley Youth Symphony is open, by audition, to any student in 6th grade or higher with permission from their private teacher. All orchestral instrumentalists are welcome to email Carol Letcher for information or to set up an audition. Auditions are held in late summer or early fall, though we occasionally accept new members in the middle of the year if there is a need and it is early enough in the set of rehearsals.

Rehearsals

The WVYS rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 in West Lafayette, Indiana. Players will recieve an email prior to each rehearsal regarding location and any other updates.

For more information, please email Carol Letcher.

FAQ

How do I join?
Auditions are held toward the end of August. The audition committee consists of the Artistic Director and a designated panel of professional musicians. Audition material will be available to download for the 2020-21 season on Sunday, July 26, 2020.
Due to COVID-19, our first concert will be strings only, however, we would like winds, brass, and percussion to register as we hope to include them in the second and third concerts.

How much does it cost?
For the 2020-21 season, tuition for String players is $400. Winds, Brass, and Percussion will have reduced rates since they will not participate in the first concert. Each year, the board reviews and sometimes makes changes to the cost of tuition. No student will be turned away from our orchestra because of an inability to pay tuition. Each student may pay their tuition through donations, ad sales, and/or contributions from family members.

What do I get for my tuition?
Tuition includes: over 70 hours of rehearsal time with a professional conductor and professional coaches and three concerts which are free and open to the public.  The students get the valuable experience of rehearsing and performing original, unabridged masterpieces of the standard orchestral repertoire in a full symphony orchestra.  This breaks down to a cost of just under $5 an hour.

When are rehearsals?
The WVYS rehearses weekly on Tuesday evenings, from 7-9 p.m.

When are the performances?
A season usually includes three full length concerts, typically held in November, February, and May.
