Audition Information

We are planning on resuming full orchestra repetoire this fall - please recruit your brass and woodwind friends!

All auditions will be by submitted YouTube videos.  Please follow the directions carefully!
  • The quality does not have to be professional, smart phone recordings are fine. However, we must be able to clearly see the musician performing, both hands!
  • All video submissions must be unlisted YouTube links. Links via Dropbox or mp4/audio attachments will not be accepted. Please double check that your link is not set to private before emailing us the link.
  • Your one minute solo excerpt, scale, and excerpts must be in one video, though it does not need to be one continuous take. You may create three separate videos and paste them together into one video. Or you may take a reasonable break between each requirement, and play through in one take. Please do not submit more than one video! (Unless you are auditioning on more than one instrument)
Please include the following in the description of your YouTube posting:
  • Name
  • Instrument
  • School and grade
When are virtual auditions due?
  • All auditions are due by August 22 at midnight.  Please allow time for any computer problems!
  • Email the link for your video audition to wvys.org@gmail.com

Please complete the online registration information on this website before you submit your video.
Here is the registration link:
https://forms.gle/cCQdFVKrkL1xUZWb8
Read all of the requirements carefully. Please do not submit an audition link before you have completed the registration form!

Scale, solo excerpt, and piece excerpts will all be heard. Please make sure you have listened to excerpts on YouTube or somewhere else to be familiar with the pieces. Some judges have commented in past years that it was obvious some people had not bothered to listen to the piece, and it made a huge difference in their audition!  Metronome markings are a suggestion, not a requirement.

Please contact Carol Letcher, 765-490-3464 (text first) or CDLetcher@comcast.net with questions.

All instruments should prepare:
1)  a scale of your choice with the stipulations as outlined for your instrument (below).
2)  one minute of a prepared solo from ISSMA group I list. Choose a section that highlights your technique and musicality.
3)  the prepared excerpts will be listed below with the name of your instrument. You are to play all portions bracketed.
